New tech enables autonomous plane landings
Garmin has developed an automatic aircraft landing system that enhances safety during emergencies, based on previous experiences that led to accidents such as the crash of a Learjet 35, which lost control due to cabin pressure loss and oxygen deficiency. The system, which has received certification from the Federal Aviation Administration, is the first of its kind and provides automatic piloting of the aircraft until it reaches the runway and lands safely. It is currently used on approximately 2,000 aircraft from brands such as Piper, Cirrus, and Daher. The system alerts pilots, passengers, and air traffic controllers when activated, aiming to reduce human error and increase safety prospects in emergency situations.
