Hamas names new political bureau head

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) announced the election of Khaleil al-Hayya as the new head of the movement's political bureau, after having announced in May a electoral round to select a successor to Yahya al-Sinwar, who was martyred in October 2024. This election comes following the death of Ismail Haniyeh and the assassination of Yahya al-Sinwar, who was overseeing the movement's leadership before his martyrdom in a clash with Israeli forces in Rafah.
