Netanyahu trial starts in Resilience Fleet case

A trial has begun in Istanbul for 35 Israelis, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, related to the attack on the "Resilience Fleet" which aimed to deliver humanitarian aid to the besieged Gaza Strip. The Israeli prosecution accused the naval forces of carrying out an armed attack in international waters of the Mediterranean Sea in October 2025, during which the fleet was intercepted, seized, and some individuals were forcibly returned to Turkey. The prosecution described this as a violation of maritime law, as well as crimes against humanity and genocide. They have called for the defendants to be sentenced to life imprisonment or up to 4,596 years, on charges including torture, deprivation of liberty, property damage, theft, and detention of individuals.
