Miloni unveils measures against mass violence

The Italian government, led by Giorgia Meloni, announced strict security measures to address the wave of riots and vandalism in northern cities, especially Milan, Turin, and Bologna, which occurred following protests against the rising cost of living and the housing crisis. The measures included deploying 500 soldiers to support police forces, imposing penalties of up to five years in prison and fines of up to 20,000 euros on participants in violent acts, with stricter sanctions for those masked or causing injuries. Additionally, the measures targeted minors, holding parents responsible for their children's damages, and allowing the detention of suspects for up to 12 hours. The unrest resulted in over 140 injuries among security personnel and widespread material damage.
