Court Upholds Conviction in Ghriba Attack
The Terrorism Chamber of the Court of Appeal in Tunis has upheld the sentences issued in the case of the terrorist attack on the Ghriba synagogue in Djerba, and has increased some of the imprisonment penalties imposed on the defendants. The prison term against the fiancé of the attacker and the person who sheltered him has been extended to 10 years from the previous 8 years, and additional prison sentences have been handed down to two other accused individuals. The original sentences ranged from non-occurrence of charges to 8 years. It is worth noting that the attack was carried out by a person after gunfire from a security officer, resulting in the death of visitors and injuries to others—including six security personnel, one of whom later succumbed.
