Spain and Italy Boost Tunisian Olive Oil Imports

The article discusses the increase in Italy and Spain's imports of Tunisian olive oil. Spain accounted for 31.9% of exports during the 2025-2026 season, compared to 19.8% for Italy, with a significant rise in export volume of 50.8%, reaching approximately 381,000 tons. This increase is attributed to Italy's need to import oil to compensate for a shortage of domestic production, while Spain, the world’s largest olive oil producer, uses imports to meet its market needs. The figures raise questions about the flow of olive oil within European markets, particularly whether it is being re-exported after entering distribution chains, although there is no conclusive evidence of this so far.
