Macky Sall Withdraws from UN SG Race

The former Senegalese president, Macky Sall, has withdrawn from the race for the position of UN Secretary-General after the sixth round of voting in the Security Council, amid ongoing divisions among member states, especially the permanent members who exercise veto power. Although he led in the voting results with support from some countries, objections from Russia, the United States, China, France, and Britain prevented any candidate from gaining broad consensus. These developments indicate that the election crisis is continuing, with the United Nations heading toward greater complications in selecting a successor to António Guterres, as two main candidates remain subject to objections from major powers.
