Kairouan produces major olive oil output

The Kairouan Governorate is anticipating a promising olive harvesting and milling season, with estimates indicating a harvest of 275,000 tons of olives, which will produce approximately 57,000 tons of olive oil—an increase of 4% compared to the previous season. The season is set to commence on October 26. The sector encompasses around 200,000 hectares containing 13.2 million olive trees, supported by 79 mills with a processing capacity exceeding 700,000 tons annually. Indicators also show that the sector plays a key role in supporting employment (with an estimated 2.2 million workdays) and boosting rural economic development. Recently, two laboratories have been made available for quality analysis and health inspections of the trees, despite a 5% decline in table olive production due to reduced cultivated areas.
