Tunisie Telegraph: Hadi Bakkour links rice shortage to supply issues

The head of the Federation of Large Commercial Spaces, Hadi Bakkour, acknowledged a shortage of some basic foodstuffs such as rice, sugar, and flour within major commercial spaces. He described this as being related to supply difficulties and increased demand during the Prophet Muhammad's birthday celebration season. He explained that there are logistical challenges in transferring rice from warehouses to points of sale, and ongoing coordination between the Ministry of Commerce and retail establishments to resolve the crisis. Additionally, the Trade Office announced a call for tenders to package and pack 6,000 tons of rice in 2026, with the aim of meeting demand. However, there are challenges in bringing these quantities quickly to consumers despite the existence of stockpiles.
