The Ministry of State Property and Land Affairs of Tunisia clarifies that the real estate holdings of foreigners in Tunisia are classified into two main categories: agricultural properties and properties of an urban nature. Regarding agricultural properties, Law of 1964 was enforced, which defined their ownership rights for Tunisian citizens. This law resulted in the regularization of a large portion of these lands and their integration into the national estate, while some lands remain under foreign ownership and are subject to procedures for transfer of ownership to the state. As for properties of an urban nature, these include built properties or those acquired before 1956. Under agreements with France, the ownership of 7,645 such properties has been transferred to the state. Meanwhile, 4,660 properties remain under foreign ownership and are managed by real estate agents. The ministry also emphasizes regulating the processes of sale and disposal of these properties, including licensing, monitoring of property status, and safeguarding the rights of owners. It is working to document the legal status of vacant and dilapidated properties to ensure the rights of all parties involved. Additionally, the management of the foreign estate holdings is carried out in accordance with the applicable legal procedures.
