TunSea Warns of White Seal Sightings Impacting Food Chain

The article discusses the frequent appearance of the jellyfish known as the "white-spotted jellyfish" along the beaches of Tunisia, which could threaten the marine food chain. This species is an invasive species in the Mediterranean Sea; its native habitat is the Pacific Ocean. Its proliferation puts pressure on zooplankton, which serve as a vital food source for marine creatures. It was first recorded in Tunisia in 2012 and has been observed repeatedly since then, with confirmation that this is a new wave of widespread expansion. Although this species is not highly dangerous to humans, its rapid increase poses a threat to the marine food system and impacts fishing activities. It could lead to damage to fish and crustacean stocks. The association has called on citizens to share their observations through photos and reports to assist in monitoring its spread and escalation.
