Breast Remote Imaging in 6 States by 2026

The Tunisian Ministry of Health plans to expand the remote mammography imaging experience to six inland regions by the end of 2026, aiming to improve diagnosis processes, reduce waiting times, and alleviate the burden of travel on patients. The pilot program has begun in the state of Tozeur, where the regional hospital has been connected to the digital hospital to transmit medical images directly to radiologists. This has helped speed up diagnoses and enhance the chances of early detection of breast cancer. This initiative is part of a digital strategy to develop telemedicine services and bring specialist medical care closer to inland areas. These areas had already been equipped with advanced imaging equipment since October 2025 but needed human expertise for diagnosis. The goal is to support early detection, reduce the need for travel to the capital—especially given the shortage of specialists—and improve early treatment opportunities for women in remote areas.
