During its participation in the African Food Control Authorities Forum, Tunisia focused on its experience in reforming its food safety system. The country presented the legislative and institutional reforms implemented in the sector since the issuance of Law No. 25 of 2019, which established the independent National Authority for Food Safety. This reform transitioned from a distributed authority system across multiple agencies to a unified system based on coordination and risk analysis throughout all stages of the food chain, from farm to table. Additionally, the regional network was expanded to include 24 departments to facilitate inspection processes, alongside the development of technological capabilities, increased reliance on digitalization, and adherence to international quality standards. These efforts aim to improve service quality and enhance inspection efficiency. These transformations align with Tunisia’s broader initiatives to strengthen African cooperation and share expertise in food safety, in response to the increasing challenges faced by the sector.
