A delegation from UNESCO, both national and international, visited the Shanni Oasis in Gabes as part of the project "Preserving the Oasis System in Tunisia." The goal of this initiative is to protect the oases and enhance their cultural and material heritage as part of humanity’s global legacy. The delegation toured various sites that showcase the diversity of the oasis heritage and experiences in resource preservation, including the Biodiversity Park, local craft workshops producing traditional products, as well as the Training Center, Ras El Wadi site, and the Mestssamed Station, which serves as a model for transforming waste into sustainable agriculture and circular economy practices. The visit is part of a collaborative action plan to develop and valorize the components of the Shanni Oasis and to introduce official authorities and civil society to the project.
