Sousse Disables Minor Rape Penalties

The article addresses a case of severe sexual assault involving a 16-year-old girl with an intellectual disability in Sousse. The suspect, a man with a criminal record, has been detained. Tunisian legal texts, particularly Law No. 58 of 2017 and the Penal Code, indicate that the potential penalties include life imprisonment for the crime of rape and misdirection, especially considering that the victim was unable to resist due to her disability, which applies to the girl in question. Additionally, the defendant faces other charges related to possession and trafficking of narcotic substances, mistreatment of a public official, and carrying a bladed weapon without a license, with sentences ranging from 1 to 10 years in prison. A strict and severe judgment is expected from the court, sending a strong message to protect vulnerable groups and individuals with special needs from abuse and exploitation in Tunisia.
