The completion of the waste landfill expansion project in the Béja Governorate of Tunisia now relies for the first time on the Japanese "Fukuoka" technique for waste management, which accelerates decomposition and improves stability through natural aeration. The technique involves introducing air into the site, thereby reducing the production of greenhouse gases, including methane. It is expected to contribute to a reduction of approximately 512 tons of CO₂ equivalent emissions annually. Engineers from the National Agency have been trained in Japan to enhance their knowledge of this technique. Implemented over an area of 3,800 square meters, the project aims to support climate change mitigation efforts and achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.
