EU allocates 710m euros for migration and health

The European Commission announced the allocation of 710 million euros for 2026 to support migration, health, and humanitarian aid issues, with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa, programs for migrant protection, reintegration, and support for regions affected by displacement and crises. Although Tunisia is not among the direct beneficiaries of this package, the funding is part of Europe's broader response to migration in the region. Europe and Tunisia have signed a memorandum of understanding on strategic partnership, and Tunisia received support worth approximately 105 million euros in September 2023 for border management and migrant protection. This new funding is considered part of Europe's efforts to curb irregular migration flows, with continued cooperation with Tunisia through separate mechanisms, despite rights-based criticisms linked to enhancing border surveillance capabilities.
