Sfax Secretary-General on Drainage Preparedness

The Sfax Municipality focused its efforts on improving the rainwater drainage system in preparation for the autumn and winter seasons, through a proactive program that began in August 2026. The program included the excavation and cleaning of around 2,200 drain inlets and 10 kilometers of drainage channels, as well as the installation of new covers for the inlets and replacement of missing or damaged covers. Areas prone to water accumulation, such as the Qaraqna River and Riad Bajjaoui Street, were also targeted in coordination with civil protection services, aiming to reduce water buildup and enhance the system's performance to handle heavy rainfall. The drainage system's effectiveness remains dependent on the intensity and timing of the rainfall.
