The Governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia, Fethi Zohair Nouri, called for the creation of an "African Union for Monetary and Financial Resilience" as a preliminary step towards establishing a permanent monetary union in Africa. The aim of this union is to enhance the ability of African economies to withstand shocks, strengthen their monetary and financial stability, and develop cooperation among continental central banks. This was announced during the 48th Annual Meetings of the African Central Banks Association held in Nairobi, which were attended by central and supervisory bank officials from Africa. Discussions focused on strengthening monetary integration and developing the African Monetary Institute, and the Tunisian Central Bank Governor was elected as a member of its Board of Directors.
