Majority of Tunisia Grid Funding Undisbursed

The Tunisian electricity transmission network upgrade project is experiencing delays in the disbursement of planned funding, with only about 8.4% of the total financing of approximately 290 million euros having been released so far, despite the project having been underway for several years. The aim of the project is to strengthen the transmission network, improve power supply quality, accommodate increasing solar and wind energy production, reduce network losses from 18% to 16%, and increase electricity transmission capacity from around 64.7 to 66.8 gigovolt-amperes. The project is expected to create around 1,200 temporary jobs and is scheduled to become operational in the first half of 2028.
