The Alzheimer’s Center at Al-Razi Hospital, affiliated with the Department of Neurology, received accreditation from the World Health Organization as a recognized regional and international training and research center in the field of dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. This accreditation enhances its capabilities to develop early diagnosis services, genetic research, and conduct clinical trials to develop innovative treatments. The goal of this accreditation is to improve patient care, especially considering that Tunisia is among the top African countries in Alzheimer’s prevalence, with an estimated 50,000 to 70,000 patients, and the number of cases increasing with age. This achievement reflects the dedication and scientific efforts of Tunisians, and at the same time, it boosts the center’s ability to develop early detection mechanisms, build regional databases, and train researchers and medical staff to address the sharp rise in cases and improve the quality of healthcare provided. The costs of caring for patients often far exceed minimum wages, posing psychological, social, and economic burdens on families.
