ABA awards Tunisian lawyer El Hami El Ayyashi

The American Bar Association awarded Tunisian lawyer Alayashi Hammami the 2026 Human Rights Award, in recognition of his five-decade career defending democracy and fundamental freedoms, and his advocacy for victims of human rights abuses and the rule of law. This honor was bestowed despite his imprisonment since December 2025 on charges of conspiring against state security, a case condemned by international human rights organizations which considered it to be politically motivated. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place in London on September 25th during the American Bar Association's International Law Conference.
