Mahdi Elbery, the Tunisian handball player, has become the first player from Tunisia to sign with a Lithuanian team. He transferred to Granitas in Kaunas, one of Lithuania’s major handball clubs, which boasts 17 national titles. This move follows his success in the Bosnian league, where he won the Bosnian Cup with RK Konjuh. Elbery will participate in the EHF Cup with Granitas, facing Cypriot club P.A.O. Omonoia in the first round on September 12, 2026. The second leg is scheduled to be played in Lithuania on September 20. Additionally, Elbery will serve as the team coordinator for the next two seasons. Despite receiving offers from Tunisian clubs, he insisted on embarking on this new professional experience in Lithuania, making it a historic first for a Tunisian player.
