Sousse Municipality Plans Flood Prevention Study

Afif El Mehri, the chief architect at the Sousse Municipality, stated that the municipality began early maintenance of the rainwater drainage networks and improving their condition, intervening in approximately 2,300 manholes along the network, especially in areas where water collects before being discharged into the sea. However, he pointed out that some parts of the network are unable to handle heavy rainfall during the autumn season, prompting the municipality to allocate 700,000 Tunisian dinars for studying and upgrading the network, along with launching a government study aimed at fully preventing city floods. He emphasized that work on maintaining the networks continues despite urban expansion, highlighting the importance of citizens’ participation in keeping neighborhoods clean to facilitate water drainage and prevent water levels from rising.
