Apple and Meta unveil Muse Spark Open on Mac

Apple and Meta have launched an open-source artificial intelligence model called Muse Spark Open, designed for use on Mac devices. The aim is to enhance AI capabilities locally on devices. The model is intended to help developers program and operate intelligent agents that can perform complex tasks independently. It is offered under limited commercial terms but can be used for free. This initiative comes as part of Apple's efforts to strengthen its position in AI following a decline in its internal efforts, and it highlights the importance of open models within the U.S. competition against Chinese tech companies. Additionally, Apple emphasizes the benefits of running models locally, as the powerful chips in Mac Studio enable efficient execution of these models while safeguarding personal data by avoiding the need to send information to the cloud.
