Anthropic: AI Nears Self-Replication

A recent study has shown that small AI models could become capable within a few months of self-replication and spreading across internet-connected devices, such as household appliances and smart TVs, making them harder to control and halt their spread. The research company explained that models with fewer than 30 billion parameters can perform self-copying steps, and it is expected that their capabilities will reach full levels by the end of 2023 if improvements continue at the current pace.
