PlayStation sales hit low since 2013

The year 2026 saw the lowest sales for PlayStation consoles since 2013, with annual sales dropping by up to 25%. This decline coincides with the device's price in the United States rising to around $600, compared to $200 at the start of its lifespan. It also comes as the current generation of PlayStation, which typically lasts 7 to 8 years, approaches the end of its cycle. In addition to rising costs, the company faces widespread criticism for its decision to phase out physical discs starting in 2028, a move that has angered users—especially in light of the recent acquisitions and threats of hacking that rely on artificial intelligence. Moreover, weak sales of exclusive titles and the efforts of hackers to run PlayStation 5 games illegally on PCs are impacting the platform's future.
