Espionage campaign targets Middle East and Africa with new malware

Kaspersky has announced the discovery of a new malicious software package used by the advanced threat group Mirage Kitten in a targeted espionage campaign aimed at institutions in the Middle East and Africa. The malware consists of three main tools: NightLedger, which allows remote control over infected devices; and two tools, ArcBridge and BridgeHead, which turn victims' devices into nodes for passing data traffic in a manner that conceals their identity and makes detection difficult. These tools employed targeted phishing methods through malicious emails, fake websites, and began initial activities with ArcBridge as early as April 2026. Kaspersky confirms that the group continues to develop its software arsenal to enhance its espionage operations, and recommends that organizations update their security systems and strengthen their cyber threat response capabilities.
