FIFA bans Hassan and Zeko for 8 games
FIFA suspends twin brothers Hossam and Zico after their criticisms of the referee at the World Cup The International Football Federation (FIFA) has suspended Hossam Hassan, head coach of the Egyptian national team, Ibrahim Hassan, and defender Mustafa Abd El-Raouf "Zico" for several matches following their statements criticizing French referee François Letexier after Egypt's loss to Argentina in the World Cup. They were also fined and banned for a total of seven matches. Their remarks, which accused the referee of favoritism toward Argentina, sparked widespread controversy, especially after Egypt's Round of 16 match ended in a 2-3 defeat despite leading 2-0 earlier in the game. Egypt subsequently accused FIFA of unfairness, underscoring that the decision aims to maintain discipline and uphold sportsmanship in international tournaments.
