Court Rules in English Fan Case

A British court issued a verdict of innocence for Meadowstone United supporter John Ryan, who was accused of assault and causing injuries to fans during an FA Cup match against Ipswich Town in January 2024. Ryan fell from an upper stand while celebrating a goal by his team, slipping on the sloped roof before colliding with fans, resulting in their injuries. The court concluded that the incident was unintentional and occurred during his celebration. Ryan stated that he does not remember whether he was pushed or if his foot slipped, with claims that he was under the influence of alcohol. Following the verdict, Ryan expressed his emotional reactions and apologized for the fans' injuries. Ipswich Town's management installed glass barriers to enhance safety. Additionally, Ryan had previously been punished for an assault at a train station and was barred from entering stadiums in Britain for three years.
