Ko: Kenya Hosting Can Combat Doping

The President of the International Association of Athletics Federations, Sebastian Coe, stated that hosting the 2029 World Championships in Kenya presents an opportunity to strengthen sports integrity and combat the doping phenomenon that has increased in the country. Although Kenya is one of the largest countries in athletics, especially in middle and long-distance races, it is facing a noticeable rise in doping cases, with over a hundred current athletes suspended, including prominent stars such as marathon world record holder Ruth Chepngetich. Coe explained that hosting the event will aid efforts to further improve sports integrity, pointing out that the Kenyan government has increased funding for anti-doping initiatives, although challenges still remain, and that the country has made progress since integrity efforts began in 2015.
