CAF officials oppose format change
The article concerns internal disagreements within the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding the format of the Africa Cup of Nations. Two senior officials oppose the idea of returning to an annual tournament, while most members support it for financial gains. It was previously announced that the tournament would be held every four years starting from 2028, but CAF President Patrice Motsepe has begun reconsidering this decision amidst discussions related to economic and political interests, including tensions with the European Football Union and conflicts in the global football landscape. Profitability from the tournament remains a key factor in these debates, as it is a major source of revenue. The proposed changes reflect a balancing of various interests and shifts in international sports politics.
