Former France Football Manager on Mbappé’s Ballon d'Or Nomination
Pascal Ferré, the former editor of France Football and the person responsible for the Ballon d'Or from 1996 to 2023, discussed the circumstances and secrets of the award in an interview with the Spanish newspaper "Marca." He confirmed that the prize is filled with rumors and lies, and that there are accusations of pressure from Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez to influence the outcome in favor of the club's stars. However, he denied that Pérez attempted to influence the judging panel directly. Ferré revealed an attempt at bribery by a player's agent to exploit the award, but he refused it. He also pointed out that the winner is announced only on the scheduled day without prior knowledge. Regarding the current competition between Kylian Mbappé and Yamal, he said it has sparked controversy; he believes that Mbappé has put forward a better campaign but does not deserve to win since he hasn't secured any titles this season. Ferré emphasized that the award depends on evaluations by independent members with expertise and is not influenced by promotional campaigns.
