CAF Reviews Senegal Appeal in AFCON Final

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in the Swiss city of Lausanne has issued a ruling regarding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final crisis between Senegal and Morocco. Senegal had appealed the decision to crown Morocco as the champion after the match was marred by riots and protests by Senegalese fans following the awarding of a penalty to Morocco in stoppage time. The title was subsequently postponed after Senegal’s 3-0 loss was upheld by the CAF appeals committee, citing violations of tournament regulations. The case raises legal controversy over the legitimacy of CAF’s decision and the annulment of a national team’s title on procedural grounds. The Senegalese government is calling for an international investigation into suspected corruption within the African Football Confederation (CAF). This incident has evolved into an unprecedented legal challenge that highlights the complexity of arbitration forums and sports regulations in major dispute cases.
