UEFA investigates Ireland-Israel match incidents

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has launched a disciplinary investigation following the Ireland versus Israel match in the UEFA Nations League, where an incident is suspected to have occurred during the game that ended in a 1-1 draw in Serbia. According to reports, it is believed that an Israeli player spat on the Irish team’s performance coach, Damien Doyle, and that the investigation was initiated due to inappropriate conduct by one or more players. The incident took place in a tense atmosphere, with the Irish coach referencing the occurrence without providing details, amid heightened tensions between the two teams due to political issues related to Israel's war in Gaza. This tension has affected the mood of matches and press conferences. It is noted that the match was played following threats from Irish players to boycott the game and was characterized by emotional tension, with Iranian players lifting their heads during the Israeli national anthem. The two sides did not exchange flags or handshakes.
