UEFA on Ireland's stance towards Israel

Reports confirmed that the Ireland national team requested the UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) not to face Israel again in upcoming tournaments due to political tensions, even though UEFA stated that such a request was impossible because there is no direct conflict. The match was scheduled in the same group as part of the UEFA Nations League draw for 2026-2027; however, its location and attendance conditions were later modified, with the game being played on a neutral ground without an audience. The issue highlighted the controversy surrounding the criteria for separating teams that avoid political conflicts, amid ongoing criticism of Irish players' behavior during the Israeli national anthem, and allegations of an Israeli player spitting at a member of the Irish technical staff.
