Lopetegui Acknowledges Defeat
The Saudi first football team defeated their Qatari counterparts in a penalty shootout after the match ended in a goalless draw in the semi-final of the Gulf Cup "Gulf 27." The Saudi coach, Osama Hosni, confirmed that his team was the better side during the match and that they deserved to qualify for the final, despite the difficulty of the game and the weather conditions. On the other hand, the Qatari coach, Julen Lopetegui, expressed his disappointment over the "Al-Anabi" team's exit despite their efforts, explaining that his team faced a strong and tiring opponent. He added that they tried to adapt to a defensive style but their players were unsuccessful in executing the penalty kicks effectively. As a result, the Saudi team advanced to the tournament final, having delivered a strong performance despite the challenges, while Qatar was eliminated from the competition.
