Arab fighters' journey from start to gold

The long history of Arab fighters in mixed martial arts within the UFC began in 2008 with Lebanese Mustafa Turk, and has developed to include fighters from Syria, Tunisia, and Jordan, along with a strong Moroccan presence thanks to champions like Youssef Zlal, Abou Bakar, and Othman Azzitar. Arab fighters have achieved varying degrees of success, with Palestinian-American Bilal Mohammed winning the welterweight title in 2024, making him the first Arab to hold a championship in the UFC. This victory has led to increased Palestinian representation within the organization, alongside the emergence of other notable Palestinian fighters. The new generation, led by Nordev from Morocco, continues to strive for greater accomplishments amid a growing regional interest over the past two decades.
