Chapequense revisits death site after decade

The Chapecoense Brazilian team returned to the site of their plane crash in Colombia after 10 years, in 2016. The crash resulted in the deaths of 71 of the 77 people on board, including 19 players, after running out of fuel during the flight. The club attended a memorial ceremony to honor the victims and inaugurated a memorial with their names, as their return to the scene serves to pay tribute and continue mourning. In that disaster, only six individuals survived, among them former defender Helio Neto. Following the tragedy, the South American Football Confederation awarded the team the Copa Sudamericana title at the club’s request, and subsequent matches were played between Chapecoense and Atlético Nacional, with the latter winning.
