Bassil Advances Lebanese Apple Exports

The article focused on the efforts of the leader of the Free Patriotic Movement, MP Gebran Bassil, to support the export of Lebanese apples, especially from mountainous regions that many families depend on. Bassil proposed studying the possibility of allocating a portion of the needs of public institutions in brotherly countries (such as the armed forces, educational and health institutions) to buy apples directly from Lebanese exporters and producers, as a practical and sustainable mechanism to dispose of the production and reduce pressures on farmers and merchants. He also clarified that the challenges go beyond entering foreign markets, including rising production costs and competition from other countries. He emphasized the importance of trade cooperation between Lebanon, the Gulf countries, and Egypt to support the agricultural sector. The proposal aims to enhance trade exchange and ease the burdens on farmers, highlighting the importance of the historic relationships between the countries to achieve this.
