Greece protests over high living costs

Students, teachers, and public sector employees in Greece protested against the rising cost of living, particularly the high housing costs and the insufficient government funding for education. Hundreds of protesters set up tents outside the parliaments in Athens and Thessaloniki, marking the second such demonstration within a week. The protesters demanded increased spending on free education and the creation of a sustainable educational environment. They highlighted a severe teacher shortage of around 15,000 educators and noted that less than 3.3% of the gross domestic product is allocated to education, which is below the European average. Despite the minimum wage being raised to 920 euros, the economic situation remains difficult. The government assured that it does not anticipate a wave of unrest similar to that in France, emphasizing that the country is not about to return to a period of major crises.
