Litani Authority Changes Water Flow

The National Authority for the Litani River in Lebanon announced the suspension of water transfer from Zrqa Spring in the Bekaa Valley to the Qasmiyeh and Ras Al-Ain irrigation projects starting this morning. Instead, the water will be diverted to hydroelectric power plants to enhance electricity generation. This measure coincides with the beginning of the rainy season and aims to manage water resources effectively between agricultural use and energy production. irrigation projects will receive water only from the available springs located downstream of the Kurdjian Dam. The authority also called on farmers to rationalize water consumption and organize irrigation practices to ensure the optimal use of the limited resources, within a plan that balances the needs of agriculture with the goal of increasing electricity output.
