Chile's President visits Bolivia after 71 years

Chilean President José Antonio Kast visited Bolivia for the first time in 71 years, a historic step toward strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries. During the visit in La Paz, both sides signed agreements in the fields of trade, mining, and communications, and announced the renewal of Economic Cooperation Agreement No. 22 as well as a memorandum of understanding to develop the mining industry. Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz emphasized his country’s firm stance on its rights and its commitment to dialogue, despite the ongoing diplomatic gap since 1978 over the access to the sea. This visit is considered one of the most significant developments in improving relations between the neighboring countries after decades of separation.
