Shia Community's View Tested in Lebanon Debate

A poll conducted by the "Statistics Lebanon" organization showed that 66.4% of the Shia community support the handover of Hezbollah’s arms to the Lebanese state, while 29.6% oppose it. The results come amid escalating Lebanese efforts to establish state control over weapons, with Hezbollah continuing to condition the disarmament on an agreement regarding a national security strategy and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from occupied territories. Some community leaders express concerns about the impact of the party’s Iran-backed policies, especially as its influence within the Shia environment wanes, emphasizing the need for the state to uphold institutional structures and the rule of law.
