Aoun and UN Secretary-General Discuss Peace Operations

The meeting between President Aoun and the UN Secretary-General for Peace Operations discussed the complex on-the-ground situation in southern Lebanon and the impact of military activities on the civilian population, with a focus on the future presence of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). Lacroix pointed out that Security Council discussions will continue to determine the best decision to ensure Lebanon's stability, emphasizing the importance of hearing Lebanon's voice and respecting its sovereignty. Meanwhile, the United Nations is committed to supporting the restoration of Lebanese sovereignty and strengthening security in the region. The options under consideration include extending UNIFIL's mandate, and Lebanon's positions must be taken into account in this context.
