Chile mine mudslide traps two workers

Chile, especially the central region, experienced a series of intense natural phenomena during the week, including heavy rains and thunderstorms caused by the El Niño phenomenon. These events resulted in unprecedented flooding, injuries, and property damage. In a notable incident, mud inside the El Teniente copper mine collapsed after heavy rains swept away the deep mud, trapping workers. One of the three workers caught in the mud was rescued, while rescue teams continue efforts to retrieve the remaining workers. The mine is the largest underground copper mine in the world. The incident highlights the dangers of working in mining facilities, particularly under the harsh weather conditions caused by El Niño, which lead to significant material and human losses.
