Al-Zein Affirms Protected Areas Will Not Be Cut

The draft decrees were introduced to precisely define land boundaries based on official laws and documents, aiming to improve the management and protection of the reserves without removing their legal status, while also allowing for future expansion. She emphasized that protecting the reserves depends on actual work and standing against violations and encroachments. She affirmed that the total area of the reserves has increased by more than 2,000 hectares according to the new projects, and the Ministry is committed to continuing their expansion and achieving its goal of protecting 30% of the territory by 2030. Zain denied any intention to backtrack on these principles and called for efforts to protect Lebanon’s environment, urging everyone to disregard rumors or political noise.
