Miloni threatens resignation over electoral law vote

The article concerns Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni's insistence on resigning if Parliament does not approve the proposed electoral reform. The reform aims to implement a full proportional representation system to ensure a parliamentary majority for a coalition that wins more than 42% of the votes, with additional seats allocated to the winning alliance. The goal of the reform is to enhance political stability ahead of the upcoming elections, but it faces opposition from left-wing parties who believe it serves the interests of the current government and threatens democratic principles. Parliament is expected to vote on the reform this Thursday, amid tensions within the ruling coalition and the possibility of rebellious deputies voting against the law. Analyses suggest that Meloni faces a situation where there is a potential risk of losing the election if the reform is passed.
