Azerbaijan Denies Link to German Ex-Intelligence Chief

Azerbaijan denied the validity of a report claiming its involvement in the case of former German intelligence chief August Hanning, who was arrested in Germany on charges of treason and espionage. Azerbaijijani authorities stated that the report published by Der Spiegel magazine has no basis and aims to damage the relations between the two countries. Hanning was detained for paying an amount to obtain secret documents from the German intelligence agency and using them for analysis in favor of a foreign intelligence service, in a case considered one of the most prominent security issues in Germany since the Cold War.
