Yemeni officials warned on Houthis threat
The article discusses the efforts of Yemeni officials who warned, for months, about the increasing threat posed by the Houthi movement, especially after their expansion along the Yemeni coast of the Red Sea. They urged the United States and Saudi Arabia to provide greater support to confront this threat. However, they did not receive adequate assistance, including aerial cover and electronic jamming of Houthi communications, due to some Yemeni officials' reluctance or Saudi and US reservations. This has led to the continued advance of the Houthis and the development of new weapons that could threaten navigation in the Red Sea. The article highlights the failure of warnings and efforts to support Yemeni forces in countering the escalating Houthi threat, and points to the risks of escalating regional maritime tensions.
